CSP Promotions is the umbrella identity
to a multitude of diverse entertainment industry related services.
1976 - Chris
Popple began his journey through the industry forming a mobile
disco that became the main source of income as a young entrepreneur
and family man.
1986 - After many years of supplying
DJs and Disco services to family functions, corporate events and
social gatherings, Chris moved to the other side of the counter
when he joined Leicester Sound and Lighting as a sales assistant
in the retail shop. Working his way up to shop manager he also
was introduced into the nightclub and bar installation side of
things, where he learned invaluable skills in the installation
industry too, and was involved in some design and installation
projects on several nightclubs.
1989 - Chris opened his own disco
equipment shop Sound Shack, selling new and used equipment, and
designing and installing nightclub venues in and around the midlands,
A year on and bigger premises were needed, so the whole operation
moved to a 3 story building, and workshops, recording studio,
and dj tuition studios were introduced.
1992 - During the recession a decision
to disband the business was made and to look further afield. This
he did and moved to Corfu Greece, involved in a project to design
and refit 2 bars for a family business based out there, on completion
of the refits he decided to stay and work as a DJ / compare and
entertainments manager at the bars involved, and others around
the island.
1994 - Chris moves back to England
and a return to the British club scene, and also a return to retailing.
Disco Direct was the next project, it began as an office based
mail order and design/consultancy business, a need for showrooms
soon became apparent and a merger with 5HQ records in Leicester
gave birth to a new retail format, with everything for the DJ
under one roof, the music, the equipment, the fashion, and again
tuition and even recording facilities too.
1999 - With promotions and DJ work
taking over, Chris made the decision to dedicate his time to this
and close the retail side of the business. This proved to be a
good decision with the his own events Gobble, Rewind, Dance-Mission
and promotiong a successfull run of Ladies only events with the
British Chippendales taking up a lot of time and energy. The many
other successes means Chris and CSP Promotions just seems to go
from strength to strength.
2000 - With the arrival of the new
millenuim CSP Promotions continued to grow. Successfull event
promotions continued and the dj services side of the business
branched out into supplying DJ's to coporprate bars and clubs
in and around the midlands for companies such as Lumnar Leisure,
Namco UK, SFI group and many more.
2006 - The Services side of CSP Promotions
now concentrates on smaller independant club and bar operators
and has seen Chris and some of the Other
DJ's on the rota working alongside Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Big
Brother Celebrities and various PA's and acts from the music industry
.
This year also saw a move into music
production. Having had several independant productions in the
past with various DJ mash ups and samplers making their way into
record stores, Chris Realised one of his other ambitions and with
Gobble promotions partner Mark Baxter (DJ Mark db) formed PDB
project to produced their own music with a view to getting signed
by record labels.
The first project saw a collaboration
with Big Brother 2006 contestant Bonnie Holt who supplied the
vocals for a cover version of the Korgi's "Everybody's got
to learn sometime" which they re-entitled "Like the
Sunshine"
The record has so far recieved acclaimed
local press and radio coverage and was distributed to various
big name DJ's including Judge Jules, majority of whom gave it
the thumbs up. PDB Project is an ongoing project and is destined
for big things in the future.
Chris is now also a presenter on the
community radio station "VISION FM" based in Leicester
, broadcasting on 95.1
and worldwide on www.visionfm.co.uk
Broadcasting for Christmas 2006 from
dec 11th 2006 to Jan 7th 2007
